A seated figure filling the right side of the vertical composition faces a bare branch tree filling the left side of the composition. The figure holds her right hand up, near her face as she gazes down towards a bird in the lower left corner of the work. The bird is seated in front of the bare branched tree on the left. The figure is dressed in a long coat with a scarf wrapped around her head. The figure’s hands and feet are somewhat large in proportion to the rest of her body, emphasizing her gesture towards the bird. Whereas both of her hands and one of her feet are rendered in black, her left foot is highlighted by a golden yellow hue which covers much of the lower half of the composition. The work is printed in black on a collage of colored papers that appear to have been ripped into pieces and then glued together onto the background. The bright colors - yellow, orange and maroon are concentrated around the figure, while the rest of the composition, including the woman’s face.
