Cemetery in Venezuela
Dublin Core
Title
Cemetery in Venezuela
Description
This appears to be a pencil sketch where the artist has made some written notation as to what colors should be included when rendered at a later time. Dominating the foreground are a series of crosses serving as grave markers. In the immediate foreground are a series of figures. On the far right are five women in dresses with their heads covered and one man wearing sombrero. The one man and three of the five women are kneeling or sitting around what appears to be a fresh grave marked with a cross. On the left are three figures, one appears to be robed monk walking in the direction of a female and male figure. Behind the figures in the foreground is a fence separating two mourners seated on the ground with their heads bowed. The grave markers and crosses decrease in size moving toward the background leading the viewer's eye back to the mountains in the distance.
