Title

Bethlehem

Description

This highly colorful horizontal composition of intense green, blue, orange, red, magenta and pink reveals the images of six figures lined up across the picture plane from left to right. The group of three figures on the left each wear crowns. Above their heads a series of rectangular lines can be seen that reiterate the shape of their crowns. The central figure of the work wears a black head scarf. Near her feet, there is an object, possibly a small bottle with a chain or rope attached to it. The figure to her right holds two fingers up in a gesture commonly attributed to Jesus Christ. An abstract, star-like shape hovers above his head. To his right, there is a bearded figure. The faces of all the figures are exaggerated in size and seem large in proportion to their bodies. The artist has also placed particular emphasis on their eyes, which gaze directly at the viewer.
