Title
Christ and the Children
Description
A large bearded figure seemingly bends slightly at the waist to fit within this horizontal composition. The figure dominates the center of the composition; he is dressed in a red robe, which contains shades of bright pink and plum. Two groups of figures surround him. He gestures with his left arm and hand toward the group of three figures to the right. The tallest figure in this group, painted in a peach tone, is dressed in what appears to be a nun’s habit. The other two figures appear to be children, one dressed in red the other black and white. The other group of figures behind the central figure are dressed in red-pink robes with green accents on the standing figure’s robe. In front of the standing figure, a child-like figure kneels in profile to the central figure. The facial features of of the figures are rendered with minimal detail. Similarly, the background is delineated with a stylized simplicity. Behind the figures, several patches of green evoke trees or shrubbery against an aqua blue sky.
