Description
This highly abstracted lithograph, made up of a tonal variation of blacks, grays, and whites, has a vertical orientation. The title of the work and a certain element indicate that the subject of the work is Christ being taken down from the cross after his death. The work is filled with patchy areas of black and gray against white, making it difficult to visually decipher, but at upper center we can see what appear to be a figure. Its face is tipped to the right, seemingly with its eyes closed, and its arms hang down on either side of it, its left arm hanging much lower than the right. A second figure also is indicated, and seems to be supporting the other figure. The second figure's head is also tilted slightly to the right, and appears just below and to the right of the other figure's head. The left arm of the supporting figure can also be seen, it travels diagonally down toward the left of the center part of the composition, and perhaps is cradling the body of the other figure in some way.
