Edmund Fitzgerald (1975)

Edmund Fitzgerald on the St. Mary River 1975.tif

The Edmund Fitzgerald was a Great Lakes Iron Freighter that sank in Lake Superior during a storm on November 10, 1975, with a loss of a crew of 29 men. This is the largest ship to ever have sank in the North America's Great Lakes, and was found split into two sections (stern and bow) at the bottom of Lake Superior. Located 17 miles off the shore of Whitefish Bay, Michigan, Edmund Fitzgerald has inspired many artists, and has led to changes in shipping safety regulations to protect sailors.
